the guidance to drive Pallet Truck

2025-04-29

Operating a pallet truck (also known as a pallet jack) safely and effectively involves following a set of key guidelines. Here's a basic guide to help you drive and handle one properly:

1. Pre-Operational Checks

Before using the pallet truck:

Inspect for damage: Check forks, wheels, handle, and brakes (if powered).

Battery/fuel check: If it’s electric or powered, ensure it's charged or fueled properly.

Controls test: Test the horn, lift/lower buttons, and drive controls.

2. Loading the Pallet Truck

Position forks under the pallet: Slide the forks completely under the pallet.

Center the load: Make sure the weight is evenly distributed.

Lift the pallet: Use the pump handle (manual) or lift button (electric) to raise the pallet off the ground, but not too high (2–4 inches is usually enough).

3. Driving the Pallet Truck

Manual pallet jack:

Pull it behind you when walking (don’t push unless navigating into a tight spot).

Use both hands on the handle for control.

Electric/powered pallet jack:

Drive slowly and steadily.

Keep the forks pointing downhill when moving on ramps (reverse downhill).

Avoid sudden stops or turns.

General tips:

Face forward when moving.

Go slow around corners.

Watch for pedestrians and obstacles.

Use designated paths in warehouses or factories.

4. Parking and Lowering

Stop in a safe location away from walkways or machinery.

Lower the forks completely to the ground to avoid tripping hazards.

Turn off the power or secure the manual jack if not in use.

5. Safety Tips

Never exceed the weight limit.

Don’t ride on the pallet jack.

Wear safety shoes and gloves.

Keep hands and feet clear of the wheels and forks.
